History

Mall + Herlan looks back on a long and eventful history. The present company emerged from two predecessor companies; Maschinenfabrik Herlan, founded by Bernhard Herlan in Karlsruhe in 1917 to manufacture impact extrusion machines for producing solid components, and the company Mall founded by Frank Mall in Berghausen in 1913.
By the 1920s, both companies had already developed important innovations for producing tubes. In 1924, Herlan applied for a patent for the first horizontal impact extrusion machine for lead and tin tubes. In the following decades, both companies promoted the automation of can and tube production time and again with new innovations.
The milestones here were the first automatic tube production line for 60 pcs/min from Herlan in 1965, and the T 10 tube lathe from Mall in 1975. After a series of acquisitions, Mall + Herlan was founded in 1995 as part of the Wifag Polytype Group.
